How To Get Started With Sunnyside Med

500,000+ people have taken the first step with Sunnyside

Since 2020, we’ve helped more than half a million people build healthier habits—many now supported by naltrexone. Hear what they have to say.

“I’ve also started naltrexone in the past few weeks. It has made a world of difference for me. I feel in control and aware of my relationship with alcohol for the first time in a long time.”

"I am feeling very proud of my journey. I’ve started naltrexone and it has made a world of difference. Being on Sunnyside, tracking, reading and sharing with this community has been fulfilling. I feel in control and aware of my relationship with alcohol for the first time in a long time."

"I just feel so much better not drinking all the time. Somehow my brain feels different! And I can’t say enough good things about Sunnyside Med. It really is a game changer for me. Huge."

"I'm doing very well at changing my relationship with alcohol. It largely has to do with taking the medication. I find I have both less cravings for alcohol and not as much of an urge to binge if I do have a drink. I wish I would have discovered it sooner!"

Sunnyside helps people develop a healthier relationship to alcohol using a science-backed, harm-reduction approach. Our members see major benefits, including a 33% average reduction in weekly drinks, improved sleep, a healthier diet, money saved, and an overall improved sense of well-being. Our efficacy is supported by a 2024 study in ACER you can read here. Sunnyside Med adds compounded naltrexone and a personalized care plan to our proven habit change program for even more complete care.

Sunnyside Med provides access to a compounded medication (naltrexone 50mg B6 5mg), and is available only if prescribed by a licensed provider through our tele-health program. Sunnyside partners with a pharmacy that specializes in customizing compounded medications to meet unique patient needs. Compounded drugs are not FDA-approved, which means they have not undergone FDA premarket review for safety, effectiveness, and quality.

Sunnyside and Sunnyside Med are not designed to treat alcohol use disorder (AUD). For resources related to AUD, including how to get support, please visit the NIH website. We've also partnered with Moderation Management, a non-profit dedicated to reducing the harm caused by the misuse of alcohol.

Naltrexone is the active ingredient in our compounded medication. It is used to help with alcohol moderation or cessation. You should not take naltrexone if you use opioids—including prescription medications or street drugs—as it may cause sudden opioid withdrawal.

Common side effects may include: nausea, sleepiness, headache, dizziness, vomiting, decreased appetite, muscle cramps, joint pain, and trouble sleeping.

More serious risks can include liver injury or allergic reactions. Stop taking naltrexone and contact your provider if you experience symptoms like severe abdominal pain, dark urine, yellowing of the skin or eyes (jaundice), or a rash with fever.

These are not all the possible side effects. Tell your healthcare provider if you experience any side effects that bother you or don’t go away. Only take this medication as prescribed.

² Reflects clinical findings where participants report reduced cravings while on naltrexone, especially when drinking. Supported by The Combine Study, 2006.

How the active ingredient in compounded naltrexone may help

By targeting key areas of the brain involved in craving and reward, the active ingredient in compounded naltrexone helps reduce alcohol’s pull—so you can drink less with more clarity and control.

Interrupts the brain’s reward loop

The active ingredient blocks specific brain receptors (μ-opioid), helping reduce alcohol’s reinforcing effects.

[Volpicelli et al., 1992; Heilig & Egli, 2006]¹

Shown to reduce cravings at the neurochemical level

Over time, drinking may feel less compelling, helping reduce the urge to over-consume.

[Anton et al., 1999 (COMBINE study)]²

Supports long-term brain rewiring

As the brain unlearns the link between alcohol and pleasure, behavior change gets easier.

[NIDA report; Koob & Volkow, 2010]³
